A little piece of Sri Lanka in Yarraville
In a quiet pocket of Yarraville sits this unassuming weatherboard home. It possesses a suburban quaintness which is slightly incongruous with the exuberance of its owner. The client grew up in Sri Lanka, where he developed a love for mid-century design and ‘tropical modernism’ epitomised by the work of Geoffrey Bawa. His hope was to bring a little bit of Sri Lanka to Yarraville, without it seeming kitsch or out of step with the existing dwelling. An idea that we are fully on board with! The design includes subtle nods to the owners background, whilst remaining contemporary and sympathetic to the original weatherboard home.
